New York Giants safety Will Hill has been suspended for the first four games of the 2013 regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

Hill, who appeared in 12 games for the Giants last season, will be eligible to return on Monday, September 30 following the team’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. His suspension will not restrict him from participation in preseason practices and games.

The 23-year-old safety was suspended last season — his rookie season — for violating the league’s policy on PEDs after testing positive for Adderall. He was in competition for one of the Giants’ backup safety spots, but was stacked up against stiff competition that included Ryan Mundy, Terrell Thomas, Tyler Sash and rookie Cooper Taylor.

Hill signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent on May 14, 2012. He recorded 38 tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and two pass deflections as a backup behind starters Antrel Rolle and Stevie Brown.
