The Pittsburgh Steelers’ Plaxico Burress suffered a torn rotator cuff during practice Thursday and could be out for the season according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The former New York Giants receiver has led a toilsome life in the NFL since late 2008 when he accidentally shot himself in the leg inside a New York City club with an illegally possessed handgun. Ironically, earlier that year, it was he who scored the go-ahead touchdown in Super Bowl XLII to seal the victory against the New England Patriots.
Now 35 years old, Burress signed with the Steelers last November, reuniting with the team that drafted him with the eighth-overall pick in the 2000 NFL draft. He spent the 2011 season — his first back in the NFL since 2008 — with the New York Jets.
In 11 NFL seasons, Burress has recorded 553 receptions for 8,499 receiving yards and 64 touchdowns.
