The New York Giants have announced that running back Da’Rel Scott has been waived.
Scott was a seventh-round pick by the Giants in the 2011 NFL draft. After playing mostly on special teams during his first two years with the franchise, the 25-year-old got his opportunity to see more offensive snaps after a preseason injury to backup running back Andre Brown resulted in the latter being placed on short-term injured reserve. Brown will miss another four games.
Scott carried the ball 16 times for 56 yards (3.5 yards per carry) so far this season. He also had 10 receptions for 98 yards and a 23-yard touchdown on a shuffle pass against the Broncos in Week 2. His last carry resulted in a fumble during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game versus the Chiefs on a draw play.
The Giants have signed offensive lineman Dallas Reynolds to take his roster spot in hopes of adding depth in that unit. Reynolds spent the past four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2009.
