In a shocking move, the New York Giants have announced that cornerback Aaron Ross has been placed on season-ending injured reserve. The 31-year-old suffered a back injury last week against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The decision was made in order to make room for cornerback Charles James and safety Will Hill, the latter of which is returning from a four-game suspension. Both will now be on the active roster.

Drafted by the Giants in the first round of the 2007 NFL draft, Ross was a key contributor on each of the Giants’ last two championship teams during Super Bowls XLII and XLVI.

In 2012, the CB  signed a three-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars but was released following the season. He re-signed with the Giants during the offseason.

The seven-year veteran has played in all four games this season and actually started the last two. He recorded four tackles and one interception.
