As Filed to Sports Journey/Loudoun County, Va. – The National Football League announced its 2014 preseason schedule today, and the Washington Redskins’ four-game slate features their preseason debut at home against the New England Patriots, a home Monday night game against the Cleveland Browns, a road tilt against the Baltimore Ravens and a road date with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Specific times for all games will be determined at a later date.
Three of the four games will be shown locally on NBC4 and Comcast SportsNet. The Redskins’ Week 2 game against the Browns will be televised on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. All games can also be heard on the Redskins Radio Network.
Washington will open the preseason at home against New England, marking the teams’ first preseason meeting since 2009. Washington has won six of its last seven preseason openers, including each of its last four dating back to 2010.
The Redskins will play in front of a national audience the following week when the team hosts the Cleveland Browns at FedExField on Monday Night Football. Washington is 8-2 in preseason contests against Cleveland since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. The Redskins have won three straight preseason games against the Browns.
The following week, Washington will make their road preseason debut when they travel north to face the Baltimore Ravens. The Redskins and Ravens met seven times in nine preseasons from 2003-11, but this year’s contest will represent the teams’ first preseason meeting after a two-year preseason series hiatus. The Redskins will be seeking their first preseason win in Baltimore since the Ravens’ inception.
The Redskins will conclude their preseason against the Buccaneers for a fourth consecutive year. Washington is 3-0 against Tampa Bay in the last three preseasons, earning a 29-24 home victory in 2011, a 30-3 home win in 2012 and a 30-12 road victory in 2013. The Redskins are 8-5 all-time against the Buccaneers in preseason play.
