Loudoun County, Va. — The Washington Redskins have announced the implementation of a “Virtual Reality Experience” in the Bud Light Social Lounge out at FedEx Field. The lounge and its effects will be powered by MVP Interactive and brought to the stadium by Anheuser-Busch.
This implementation is the first MVP-designed Virtual Reality Experience in any NFL stadium. Equipped with an Oculus Rift headset affixed to a team helmet, users will feel like they are professional NFL football players. During their “experience” they will exit the team bus, sign autographs and enter the stadium. As the players do, the will then report to the locker room to suit up.
With this fully immersive experience, fans — as the players — will then “proceed” out onto the field for pre-game warm ups. In doing so, they will get to experience first-hand the pageantry of exiting the tunnels and running out onto the field for player announcements. They will experience the pyrotechnics and hearing the cheers from the stadium. Next they’ll experience the opening kickoff from the sidelines with a 360-degree view.
Throughout the start of the 2015 season, major enhancements have been made to FedEx Field’s Bud Light Social Lounge. This includes the addition of Microsoft Surface tablets, Xbox consoles, a virtual field goal kicking machine and two morphing stations.
Additionally, enhancements to the interactive gaming wall include a virtual touchdown catch, where fans are challenged to catch a pass, score and then show off by doing their best touchdown dance. A video highlight of their dance will be recorded and sent through email to be shared via their social media sites.
“At the beginning of the football season, we challenged our NFL team partners to help us find new and innovative ways to activate around sports. Our new Virtual Reality Experience with the Washington Redskins does just that,” said Lucas Herscovici, Vice President of Consumer Connections at Anheuser-Busch. “Football fans are consuming the game in ways we never dreamed of before. They want to feel connected to the game, not just watch it on the TV. The new Virtual Reality Experience will give fans the interactivity they crave, allowing them a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to be an NFL player.”
Fans can visit the Bud Light Social Lounge at FedEx Field on game day outside of Sections 112 and 113. Participants must be 21 years of age or older to interact with the Bud Light interactive games in the lounge.
