When the Washington Redskins signed running back Adrian Peterson last week just days before the teams third preseason game against the Denver Broncos, most interested in the team were curious to see if the future Hall of Famer still had something left in his game.

Peterson did nothing to disappoint and at least for one game quieted the naysayers. His performance against the Broncos consisted of 11 rushes for 56 yards.

The 12-year veteran a week ago was waiting for an opportunity to prove himself all over again as a 33-year old who many felt was past history.

Peterson, however, felt there were several reasons that played to a decline in his play over the past few seasons. He is happy to be behind a line that he feels will help his game. The Redskins offensive line has two Pro Bowl players anchoring it in left tackle Trent Williams and right guard Brandon Scherff. Right tackle Morgan Moses has the potential to be a Pro Bowl player.

While speaking to the media after a recent practice this week, Peterson expanded on his arrival and what he envisions going forward. His confidence in his teammates and his own abilities were on full display.

“It was good to get out there and finally get behind those guys,” Peterson said of his offensive line.

Does Adrian Peterson need to play in Redskins preseason finale against Ravens?

Peterson likes the young players in his running backs unit, as well, and mentioned it brought a smile to his face to know he has had an impact on those who grew up watching him.

“I feel like we can be the best running back group in the NFL,” Peterson said.

The longtime Minnesota Vikings back had a non-Peterson like-impact last year while playing for the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals, but didn’t think about his naysayers in his Redskins debut.

“It didn’t motivate me during the game because I knew what I can do,” the former Oklahoma great said of those doubting him. “I understand when I’m sitting on the couch at the house and you have people on TV sitting there giving their opinion, it is what it is. It’s unfortunate because it’s like ‘hey’ because you could call. Pick up the phone and call me and ask questions and find out more detailed information about me instead of coming up with your own assumptions.”

Peterson’s interview was well thought out and that the end the future Hall of Famer mentioned emphatically what he wants to accomplish this year.

“Help this team win a championship and continue being the best player in the league,” the 12-year veteran said.
