New Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson had a message for some of his critics who think that the future Hall of Famer’s best days are behind him.

While speaking to the media today from the INOVA Sports Performance Center at Redskins Park, Peterson was adamant that he can still perform at a high level and prove the naysayers wrong despite rushing for a career-low 3.4 yards per carry last season.

“It shows me people don’t really know about football,” Peterson said about his detractors. “I feel like people that know the game of football know different situations a player might be in. So when people go back and say, ‘oh, 2.4 yards-per-carry,’ there’s a lot that contributes to that as well. I just brush it off. And I continue to work because at the end of the day I control my output. So that’s why I continue to work hard. I knew an opportunity would present itself. And at the end of the day, God’s willing, stay healthy, the guys up front stay healthy as well, I know that I’ll be able to contribute in a big way in the run game.”

It will be interesting to see if Peterson exceeds the two-week workout he basically is working off of and proves that he still is the star RB he has always been. At 33, the critics will be loud and clear until the former Oklahoma star can give them a reason to be quiet.
