Fantasy Football season is here and it’s important to know who to start, but it’s equally important to know who to sit out of this week’s leagues.
This afternoon the Washington Redskins take on the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium Stadium to start the NFL regular season.
Because of matchups and circumstances, here are two Redskins that FFL owners should consider sitting.
1. WR Paul Richardson
The Cardinals defense is one that can be very disruptive but is also vulnerable especially in the middle of the field. With Patrick Peterson potentially covering Richardson, he may not see many favorable targets during this game.
During opening day last year while with the Seattle Seahawks, the Colorado product had four catches for 59 yards against the against the Green Bay Packers. Those numbers produced only 5.9 fantasy points. Possibly going up against the Pro Bowler Peterson, Richardson could be more of a decoy to spread Peterson out and away from the ball.
Redskins quarterback, Alex Smith, will have his full arsenal this Sunday and the matchups look to lean more to a heavy dose of Jamison Crowder and Jordan Reed. Also, Don’t forget about all-purpose running back Chris Thompson.
2. RB Rob Kelley
There are two solid factors that put Kelley on this list.
History shows that Kelley doesn’t fair well in games during the first week of the NFL season. Last season he only had 10 carries for 30 yards while manufacturing only three lousy fantasy points.
The other factor is Adrian Peterson. Peterson’s presence will take away several opportunities from Kelley in the red zone. These lack of chances to get in the end zone will significantly reduce the number of points he could produce. With so much uncertainty surrounding the number of touches Kelley could get, it would be wise to put him on the shelf this week.
