The Washington Redskins are coming off of a bye week and sport a 2-1 record entering a pivotal Week 5 contest against the New Orleans Saints. The Monday night primetime clash should allow the country an up front assessment of the Redskins and what type of team they are.

The Redskins will enter the Mercedes Benz Superdome as early 6.5 point underdogs against the 3-1 Saints.

Both teams are leading their respective divisions and last year played in a memorable overtime thriller. That game produced an agonizing ending for the Redskins and their historical fan base, however.

Redskins will try to carry momentum into Saints matchup

The Redskins led by 15 points with less than six minutes in the game, only to watch Pro Bowl quarterback Drew Brees catch fire and throw two touchdown passes that sent the game into overtime. The Saints ultimately won by the final score of 34-31.

Washington leads the overall series 17-9. Since coach Jay Gruden’s arrival in 2014, the Redskins have split two games with the Saints. Last year’s loss and a 47-14 win back in 2015.
