The Washington Redskins did in Tampa, Florida today what they have been doing all season long. Winning ugly football games.
In a game that on paper would have fans think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers dominated the Redskins, was actually a contest of turnovers. Fortunately for the Redskins, those turnovers were by the home team.
The blueprint for the Redskins in all of their wins was to play stout defense, run the ball, and not have any turnovers. Today that blueprint held to form in enabling the Redskins to pick up their sixth win over NFC opponents this season.
By beating Tampa the #Redskins are an impressive 3-1 on the road this season. They are even more impressive with a 6-2 record over the NFC Conference.

The Redskins defense gave up a ton of yards (501 total) to the Buccaneers but held steady inside of the red zone. They forced two interceptions of Bucs quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and also forced two fumbles.
On offense, the Redskins were their opportunistic selves. Quarterback Alex Smith came into the game as the third best signal caller in the NFL inside of the red zone. He orchestrated another red zone touchdown with a pass to the back of the end zone to wide receiver Josh Doctson.
Washington came into the game with a banged up offensive line after the losses of starters Brandon Scherff and Shawn Lauvao. They were also playing without Pro Bowl Tackle Trent Williams (injured thumb) and had Jonathan Cooper starting at left guard after just being signed as a free agent last week. Outside of two penalties, Cooper played well in his Redskins debut.
Folks Johnathan Cooper is out there throwing some nice blocks and people around. For this to be his first game and fresh off the street just a a few days ago is impressive. #Redskins

Kicker Dustin Hopkins provided the rest of the team’s points on three made field goals with the longest coming from 43 yards.
The wins may not be pretty but they are adding up for the Redskins who are now 6-3 and will sit atop the NFC East division for another week.
The #Redskins will enter Week 11 against the Texans having been in 1st place of the NFC East standings for a sixth consecutive week.
