The 2018-2019 season has been one of many ups-and-downs for the Washington Wizards. This past week dealt the Wizards another blow when they learned five-time All-Star John Wall will be out for a year with a torn Achilles. This forced the Wizards to make some quick decisions before the NBA trade deadline ended on Thursday. The team traded Otto Porter, Jr. to the Chicago Bulls for forward Jabari Parker and forward Bobby Portis, and Markieff Morris to the New Orleans Pelicans for forward Wes Johnson.

The Wizards took to the court on Friday versus the Cleveland Cavaliers with a new lineup and all three trade acquisitions on the floor at some point during the game. It became clear as soon as Portis and Parker entered the game that they were beneficial pickups. Parker excelled in rebounding (11) which is an asset to a team that has struggled in this area most of the season. Portis’ 30-points paired with Beal’s 25-points were key to the Wizards 119-106 victory over the Cavaliers.

“I love playing the game of basketball and I love going out there and giving it my all,” Portis said. “I play with a ton of passion every time I step on the court, and I think that showed tonight. I just want to go out there and play basketball. Its been since Saturday since I played, so I just wanted to go out there and have fun.”
