The Washington Redskins are a few days away from their first preseason game of 2019 against the Cleveland Browns so it was time to release their first official depth chart. On it, QB Colt McCoy is listed as the starting signal-caller and this makes sense. He has been with the team five years and knows head coach Jay Gruden’s system like the back of his hand. New teammate Case Keenum is a veteran but he is still learning so seeing McCoy at the slot of starter is a no-brainer for now. Keenum is listed at the No. 2 spot and rookie first-round draft pick, Dwayne Haskins, is No. 3

The rest of the team shakes out as follows:

Left Tackle: Ereck Flowers
Left Guard: Geron Christian
Center: Chase Roullier
Right Guard: Brandon Scherff
Right Tackle: Morgan Moses
Wide Receiver: Paul Richardson
Wide Receiver: Josh Doctson
Wide Receiver (slot): Trey Quinn
Running Back: Adrian Peterson
Running Back: Derrius Guice
Tight End: Jordan Reed
Tight End: Vernon Davis

That running back Chris Thompson is listed behind Peterson means nothing in the big scheme of things. Thompson is a specialist in his own way… as third-down, pass-catching back that does things other RBs can’t. He’s just as important to the team as Peterson or Guice. He will start every regular-season game unless injured.

Defensively, we’ve pretty much been seeing the starters throughout training camp when the first team is on the field with the interior defensive line starting the two Alabama men and the team’s 2016 fifth-round pick clogging up the middle.

IDL: Jonathan Allen
IDL: Daron Payne
IDL: Matt Ioannidis
OLB: Ryan Kerrigan
OLB: Ryan Anderson
ILB: Jon Bostic
ILB: Shaun Dion Hamilton
SS: Landon Collins
FS: Montae Nicholson
CB: Josh Norman
CB: Quinton Dunbar
S/5CB: Fabian Moreau

Some of the backup positions are pretty set (like CB Jimmy Moreland behind Moreau and LB Montez Sweat behind Anderson) but others will require the rest of camp and the preseason to set in stone.
