The NFL announced its 2020 schedules despite the uncertainty of an actual season because of the Covid-19 worldwide pandemic.
Nevertheless, the Washington Redskins and new coach Ron Rivera will get a top billing game when they take on their division rival the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day.
The Week 12 showdown will spotlight three consecutive weeks the Redskins will be on the road against formidable opponents.
Week 13 will place the Redskins at Heinz Field to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers should have back their franchise quarterback in Ben Roethlisberger, which could make them a darkhorse contender in the AFC.
Week 14 and the third straight road game has the Redskins taking on NFC defending champion San Francisco 49ers and former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. The contest could have some bad blood not just because of the way Shanahan and his father – former Redskins coach Mike Shanahan – were fired by team owner Dan Snyder, but because of the 49ers game-ending celebration, last year in a 9-0 win over Washington at rain-soaked FedEx Field.
Other notable games on the Redskins schedule is a Week 1 contest against defending NFC East king in the Philadelphia Eagles. The game will allow fans a chance to see Rivera’s rendition of the new-look team and their first chance to see first-round pick Chase Young’s inaugural regular-season outing. The Redskins will be looking for their first NFC East win in over two years.
Week 4 will be a ‘Battle of the Beltway’ as the Baltimore Ravens, and last year’s NFL MVP Lamar Jackson take the short trip down I95-S to FedEx Field.
Overall, the Redskins have the fifth most manageable schedule (.465) in the NFL based on last year’s team records.
