Fresh off of their opening day victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Washington Football Team will travel west for their first road game against the Arizona Cardinals. Washington was the NFC East’s lone winning team in Week 1 and stand in sole possession of first place in the division entering Week 2.

Last week against the Eagles, Washington showed poise for a young team overcoming a 17-0 deficit.

Washington was led by a stout defensive effort that harrassed Eagles QB Carson Wentz to the tune of eight sacks and two interceptions. Ryan Kerrigan was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after posting two sacks in the defensive onslaught.

The Sunday contest against the Cardinals (1-0), who were victorious last week against the reigning NFC Conference Champion San Francisco 49ers, should be a good test for Washington regarding how far they have progressed under new coach Ron Rivera.

The Cardinals have a dynamic duo in QB Kyler Murray and WR DeAndre Hopkins that will be tough to stop.

In the team’s last meeting on Sep. 9, 2018, Washington defeated the Cardinals 24-6. The Burgundy and Gold are 3-1 in their previous four road openers dating back to 2016.

What would a win over the Cardinals do for the Washington Football Team from a statistical and historical standpoint?

A victory would improve Washington’s overall record against the Cardinals to 78-46-2.

A win would give Washington their first 2-0 start since 2011.

In Arizona, winning would mark the first time Washington has won in back-to-back weeks to open a season with one win coming at home and on the road since 2007.

A ‘W’ would improve Washington’s Week 2 record to 41-36-3.

Winning gives Washington Head Coach Ron Rivera two-consecutive wins to start his tenure with Washington. Rivera would become the first head coach to win his first two games as Washington’s head coach since Jack Pardee did so in 1978.

A win would keep Washington in sole possession of first place in the NFC East division for a second straight week.
