As Washington continued their West Coast tour, Wednesday night’s showdown with the red-hot Los Angeles Kings ended with a 2-1 victory for the Capitals, bringing their season record to 11-6-2.

Following a bad loss to the lowly San Jose Sharks, Spencer Carbery’s squad rebounded against one of the top teams in the NHL. Goaltender Charlie Lindgren led the way for the Capitals, stopping 38 out of 39 shots against the Kings, including 15 crucial saves in the third period.

“Phenomenal. So many different saves in different ways, long-range, flank one-timers,” Carbery told reporters post-game. “Phenomenal performance to get us two points tonight.”

The Capitals’ win in LA was also the teams fourth in six games on the road, totaling 11-6 in the early portion of the season.

Offensively for the Caps, Anthony Mantha scored the teams first goal on a two-on-one breakaway in the first period. He finished the game with a goal and an assist. Connor McMichael’s second-period goal would ultimately be the game-winner, slapping a Mantha rebound shot to the back of the net with 1:29 to go in the second period.

“It always feels good when you can contribute in a positive way,” McMichael said in the locker room after the game. He added, “I think tonight was just a bounce-back game for us.”

The Capital’s trip out west continues with a showdown vs. the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night and a Saturday night game in Las Vegas, where Washington will look to build on their
early season road success.
