The Buffalo Bills’ most impressive and lopsided victory of the young 2024 season sent a defiant, leaguewide message that the Bills are not to be overlooked.

On Monday night, quarterback Josh Allen led the Bills to a 47-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Allen completed over 75 percent of his passes, throwing for 263 yards and four touchdowns. He also carried the ball an additional 44 yards.

The Bills now lead the AFC East with a perfect 3-0 record. Many football analysts and fans predicted the AFC East to be one of the toughest divisions in the NFL this season, so the Bills needed to jump to the top of the division standings early, precisely what they’ve done.

Buffalo has had quite an impressive start to the year, fending off the aggressive Arizona Cardinals in their season opener and holding the Dolphins to just 10 points in a week two showdown in Miami. But, what makes the Bills’ Monday night blowout of the Jaguars even more impressive is where we thought the Bills would be coming into this year.

Let’s go back to Buffalo’s season last year.

Josh Allen threw the most interceptions he’d thrown in his career, 18 total, including three in a week one overtime loss to the New York Jets. So far this season, Allen has thrown seven touchdowns through 3 games and has yet to throw an interception—a night and day difference from where he was a year ago.

There was also the disappointing way the Bill’s season ended in 2023. Buffalo finally captured a higher playoff seed than their rivals in Kansas City. Despite the home-field advantage and the golden opportunity to finally topple the Chiefs in the postseason, a missed game-tying 44-yard field goal from Tyler Bass sealed yet another playoff win for the Chiefs and left the Bills with another bitter postseason exit.

The hot seat under Buffalo’s head coach, Sean McDermott, got even hotter following another disappointing end to the Bills’ season. However, the organization ultimately decided to stay with McDermott.

The offseason came a wave of departures from Upper New York. The Bills lost star safety Jordan Poyer to the Dolphins. Cornerback Tre’Davious White went west to the L.A. Rams, Center Mitch Morse, and Wide Receiver Gabe Davis left for Jacksonville, and, most notably, wide receiver Stephon Diggs, Josh Allen’s number-one target, left Buffalo to join the Houston Texans.

I remember talking with my Sports Journey colleague Conor Forrest on his podcast “After Further Review with Conor Forrest” about what the Bills would look like this year. We agreed that Buffalo was due for a regression this season.

But the 2024 Bills are out to prove us and many around the league wrong, and the Bills Mafia is fired up about how their team looks just three games into the season.

Look out, NFL; the Bills might be as good as we think they are.
