It’a all about the competition.

The Washington Redskins announced that they have signed former Washington Husky and free agent fullback Dorson Boyce. Boyce, 6’1” and 237 lbs., was signed as a college free agent during the 2011 off-season by the Seattle Seahawks and had somewhat of a roller-coaster career with the NFL team. Signed on July 26, 2011, he was released on August 16 and then re-signed a couple of days (August 18). The signing and re-signing was for naught; however, as the former Husky was released by Seattle before the regular season began.

While in Seattle, Boyce did play in four preseason games and had two rushes for 11 yards (5.5 average) and four catches for 28 yards (7.0 average).

The fullback played nine games for the University of Washington in 2009-2010 and spent the 2006-2008 seasons at Allan Hancock College (northern Santa Barbara County, Ca.) where; in his last year there he was named to the All-Northern National Conference team and All-California Region III first team.

Dorson Boyce was born June 25, 1988, and attended Bayside (N.Y.) H.S., where he was named second-team All-City and second-team All-Queens as a senior, playing tight end and defensive end.

As well as signing Boyce, he Redskins waived offensive lineman Nevin McCaskill. McCaskill (6’3”, 309 lbs.) had been signed to a Reserve/Futures contract on Jan. 3, 2012. The journeyman was signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He was  released twice and re-signed twice to the team before released by the Bills as a part of their cut-down for the regular-season league-mandated 53 man roster on August 30, 2008.

McCaskill has also been a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets, and Washington Redskins.

Additionally, cornerback Chase Minnifield cleared waivers and is now on the team’s Reserve/Injured list. The cornerback, formerly a Virginia Cavalier, had missed the Chick-Fil-A Bowl with a knee injury, which required surgery to remove floating cartilage particles in January and was medically excluded at the Combine because of bilateral ankles (swelling). More recently, he sustained an ACL injury during the final day of mini-camp.

Hail.
