The Washington Redskins have announced that linebacker Nick Barnett has agreed to a one-year contract one day after the team hosted him for a work out. With the up-and-coming Keenan Robinson out for the foreseeable future with a pectoral muscle injury, the Redskins needed the depth behind veteran London Fletcher and Perry Riley.

Barnett, 6’2”, 240 lbs. was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the first round (29th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft. In 2007, he was credited with 102 solo tackles for the Packers and in two earlier years, logged over 90.

The former OSU Beaver played in Green Bay until 2011, when he was picked up by the Buffalo Bills after the Packers could not find a trade partner. He led the Bills in tackles last season and was credited with 72 solo and 40 assisted. He started 16 games, logged two sacks, had three forced fumbles and one pass defended.

Barnett, 32, has a reputation for being strong against the run and should fit in well to the Redskins’ 3-4 defense.

As well as the signing of Barnett, running back Tristan Davis was placed on the Exempt/Left Squad list after he quietly retired from playing in the National Football League.

Hail.
