When the Washington Redskins jumped out to a 21-0 first-half lead over the Arizona Cardinals the internet was buzzing with fans who had noticed that the first half playcalling by coach Jay Gruden was outstanding.

Gruden has called several great games since his arrival in D.C. but today looked more like a complete mixture of plays and a willingness to stay with the run game.

In year’s past, Gruden would abandon the run game when things were taken away early. Today, the fifth-year coach stayed with Adrian Peterson, Chris Thompson and Rob Kelley for the full game.

On the day, the Redskins offense led by quarterback Alex Smith was efficient and methodically moved the ball against the Cardinals. They executed within the red zone which had been a sore spot for the Redskins offenses over the past few seasons.

Against Arizona, the Redskins went 3-of-4 in the red zone. That’s 75% production that they will take on a weekly basis at any time.

4 things we learned about Redskins in a 24-6 win over Cardinals

Gruden’s playcalling allowed everyone to get involved within the offense. Just about every skill set player who played contributed.

The Redskins balanced attack put up numbers of 182 net yards rushing and 247 net yards passing in the 24-6 win.
