The Washington Redskins have announced the following roster moves.

The team placed rookie safety Troy Apke on their Reserve/Injured list.

The Redskins signed practice squad linebacker Cassanova McKinzy to their active roster and signed defensive back Jason Thompson to the practice squad.

Apke is the big name. He was drafted out of Penn State by the Redskins in the fourth round of this past years NFL Draft.

He suffered a hamstring injury during the Redskins Week 1 win over the Arizona Cardinals and had been sidelined up until this past weekends win over the Giants. Unfortunately, Apke re-injured his hamstring in Sunday’s game therefor requiring the move to place him on the Reserve/Injured list.

While speaking to the media today from his Monday press conference at the INOVA Sports Performance Center at Redskins Park, Coach Jay Gruden mentioned that Apke might be a candidate for IR.

“I would say so, we are going to talk to him and then get the final word on how many weeks we think it might be,” Gruden said. “If it’s going to be four to six weeks, then IR is a possibility.”
