The Washington Redskins announced that they have made the following roster moves:

  • Cornerback Joshua Holsey was waived from the active roster
  • Offensive tackle Geron Christian Sr. was placed on the Reserve/Injured list
  • Running back Mack Brown’s contract was terminated from the practice squad
  • Center Casey Dunn was signed to the practice squad

Interestingly, after spending the first 10 weeks of the season on the NFI (Non-Football Injury) List, Holsey (the team’s 2017 seventh-round draft pick) was activated just after Christian, Sr. was injured. But with rookie DBs Danny Johnson and Greg Stroman getting more and more reps, the need for Holsey may have decreased.

Christian, Sr. was injured during Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He suffered a torn MCL.

After being waived by the team earlier in the season, Brown returned to the team’s practice squad in October and, at that time, the move made sense in terms of roster depth. But RB Byron Marshall will be eligible to come off IR shortly and may be reactivated so the team may need the roster spot.

Considering the condition of the Redskins offensive line, the move to resign Dunn is a no-brainer. He was recently waived but it’s not unusual for teams to move guys on and off a team when dealing with injuries. Even if not the best player on the squad, it’s helpful to keep and develop an guy who’s be in the system.
