The Washington Redskins despite an embarrassing 40-16 loss to the New York Giants will look to keep their playoff hopes alive this week in a road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Historically, Washington (6-7) has only played the Jaguars (4-9) six times and leads the all-time season series 5-1.

The Redskins have a plethora of new pieces on the offensive side of the ball due to a significant amount of injuries. With all of the new bodies that will be in the lineup, it will be imperative for all to be focused, paying more than the usual amount of attention to detail.

Below are three players/positions to keep an eye on in the Week 15 matchup at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville Florida.

1. QB Josh Johnson

After being signed by the Redskins when Colt McCoy went down after suffering a fractured right fibula and the failed trial run of Mark Sanchez, Johnson finds himself in the starting role after only being with the team for a week. The Former San Diego product was thrust into last Sunday’s home blow out and provided the team with a spark that led to 16 points late in the game.

Redskins vs. Jaguars: two injury riddled teams meet

It will be vital for the seven-year pro to play within the confines of the offense. His mobility gives the Redskins offense another dimension. This Sunday will be interesting to see how well he can play with a week of preparation and reps with the starters.

2. The Offensive Line

Washington will have yet another offensive line combination so it will be intriguing to see if they can get into a rhythm early.

The Jaguars defense has struggled in their ability to stop the run. In Jacksonville’s last three games they have given up 157.3 yards per game to their opponents. If Washington’s offensive line can play cohesively it will allow for Adrian Peterson to have success on the ground. Another added wrinkle that will assist the Redskins offensive line will be Josh Johnson’s play-making ability in running the ball and making off scheduled plays. That threat could help open up the interior running lanes allowing for a much need balanced attack on offense.

An area to watch with this unit is the unnecessary penalties that have killed drives before they gain any momentum.

3. WR Jamison Crowder

Crowder for the first time since Week 5 took the field two weeks ago against the Philadelphia Eagles. He caught all four of his targets for 36 yards for the game. It could be said that Crowder’s performance was stunted due to the loss of quarterback Colt McCoy — early in that contest — who has a better understanding of the offense.

Despite penalties, Redskins O-linemen Williams and Moses plan to play their games

Outside of Josh Doctson, the Redskins have struggled to find another consistent weapon in the passing game at the wide receiver position mainly due to injuries that have depleted the unit. Crowder was targeted seven times in last Sunday’s home loss to the Giants and came away with only two catches for 87 yards and one touchdown. With his crisp route running, it will be fascinating to see what type of impact he can have with Johnson at the helm.
