The 70th Senior Bowl will give Division II standouts in defensive back Corey Ballentine and defensive end John Cominsky the chance to shine in front of NFL Scouts. The two have been on the radar of some NFL Scouts and through practice and the game, these two will have a chance to put their talents on display among some of the best collegiate NFL Draft prospects in the country.

The Washburn senior cornerback and kick returner, Ballentine, is their first player ever selected for the Senior Bowl. At 6’0″ 204 lbs, he is a well-rounded player. The former Shawnee Heights standout was very effective as a cornerback but also a big factor on special teams. The two-time first-team All-MIAA defensive back who also earned third-team honors as a return specialist this past season finished his career with 186 tackles, including 50 as a senior.

He also added 10 tackles for loss, five interceptions and four blocked kicks, finishing seventh at WU with 1,166 career kickoff return yards.

“We are thrilled that Corey Ballentine will be coming to the Senior Bowl this year,” Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy said. “He is a really intriguing player. His speed was obvious when we saw him play live this fall. Just as important as the physical talent, he is also the type of high-character person that NFL teams will want to try to develop. Corey has a chance to be one of the highest drafted small-school players in this year’s draft.”

University of Charleston senior defensive end John Cominsky has literally dominated his competition in the D-II league with his speed and power. At 6′ 5″ 275 lbs he at times is bigger than most offensive tackles he faced in division II but he does a really good job of staying clean and not allowing them to get their hand on him.

It will be interesting to see how he will be used in the NFL as he could easily play outside linebacker due to his athletic abilities. The former Golden Eagle finished his career with 206 combined tackles, 109 solo tackles, 15.5 sacks and 10 passes defended.
