Some would say that Washington Redskins former wide receiver, Jamison Crowder, didn’t have a great 2018. Ailing for seven games with an ankle injury, he and then-starting quarterback, Alex Smith, never really cystalized and the dependable wideout that fans had come to count on ended the season with only 388 yards. Even so, he led the team in yards per reception (13.4) and, had he not been hurt; might have been the season’s most prolific pass-catcher for Smith (before the QB was hurt). It’s hard to know what went into the Redskins front office’s decision to let him walk but the 2015 fourth-round pick will not be wearing Burgundy and gold in 2019. According to multiple sources, Crowder will be playing for the New York Jets on a three-year, $28.5 million deal ($17 million guaranteed) come September.

Quiet in the locker room and very polite (at least to this member of the media) Crowder wasn’t one of the Redskins more publicly animated players. But all he has done since he arrived in Washington was show up and produce.

In 2015 and 2016, he appeared in 16 games, starting in six and nine respectively. In 2017, he played in 15 games, starting six and he became former starting QB Kirk Cousins’ go-to guy in the slot. Always fighting for yards-after-the-catch, Crowder wasn’t afraid to take a hit in the middle.

Last season, by the time he was able to return to the field, Josh Johnson was his quarterback; a man with whom he had never played. But the former Blue Devil was the best wideout in both the win over the Jacksonville Jaguars (his 33-yard reception on 3rd-and-15 helped set up Jeremy Sprinkle’s game-tying touchdown reception) and in the loss to the Tennessee Titans (five receptions for 78 yards).

While Crowder’s stats haven’t been gaudy since he came to the nation’s capital, before last year, he was available when needed… something that — ever since the days of Pierre Garçon — is somewhat of a hot commodity in Ashburn when it comes to wide receivers.
