Entering today’s contest against the 1-2 New York Giants, the 0-3 Washington Redskins were looking to get their first win of the 2019 season. Washington was consistently inconsistent in Weeks 1 through Week 3 and, unfortunately, this did not change against New York. The Burgundy and Gold lost to their NFC East division rival 24-3.

In the first half, the Redskins struggled to move the football with QB Case Keenum completing just six of 11 passes for 37 yards. It was no surprise then that after an interception (as well as sacks and some open receivers being missed), the veteran was replaced by the team’s 15th overall pick in this year’s draft, Dwayne Haskins.

Even with the change at quarterback, Washington struggled to find an effective plan for their young quarterback. Haskins ended up completing 9 of 17 passes for 107 yards and three interceptions.

Redskins defensive coordinator, Greg Manusky, did get a few essential pieces to the defensive puzzle back for this game but his squad showed much of the same lack of success from the previous three contests. Soft zone coverages caused ineptitude on third downs and a plethora of penalties led to long drives for the Giants that eventually resulted in points for New York.

Despite all of the above, there was a bright spot for Redskins Nation. Washington CB Quinton Dunbar was impactful, giving the Redskins’ offense a few scoring opportunities with his interceptions. While the former wideout has suffered some peculiar leg injuries over the past few years, he has shown that when he is available and healthy; he is one of the best corners on the roster.

The fifth-year player out of Florida finished the game with three tackles and came away with two of the Redskins four turnovers in this game.

The Redskins will need more disciplined play in all three phases of the game if they want to turn around their 0-4 start to the 2019 season.
