In Week 2, the Washington Redskins needed to put together a complete game of football. Head Coach Jay Gruden’s team needed to correct penalties that (in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles and even last season) either extended drives for the opponent or hindered their own. On Sunday at home against their division rival, the Dallas Cowboys, the Burgundy and Gold displayed offensive balance and defensive assertiveness early in the game.

Unfortunately, penalties continued to be an issue against Dallas, especially along the offensive line. Added to the miscommunications on the defensive side of the ball and points were given up.

Despite these issues, quarterback Case Keenum managed to stay levelheaded and is the impact player for this game. He showed his experience in the face of adversity by running the offense with efficiency.

Even with the Redskins down double digits on scoreboard, the Texas native continued to make sound decisions with the football, orchestrating back-to-back scoring drives. Keenum had a few passing plays he would have liked back but overall, he guided the offense efficaciously in a tough loss to the Cowboys.

Many thought the offense would need to be brought along slowly in 2019 but the unit has shown that it is up to the task. Gruden did a solid job of maintaining balance as long as he could but had to rely on the pass once the game got out of hand. Fortunately, Keenum rose to the occasion for a second straight week.

What stands out from the QB is his ability to check into plays based on what the defense is giving him. The former Houston product was able to find eight different receivers, finishing the day 26 of 37 for 221 yards and two touchdowns.

Washington will need Keenum to continue to make smart decisions with the football that will, at least, give them a chance to win. That said, the Redskins offense will need to receive some help for their defense if they have any chance at a victory.
