Over the past few days and even months, the Washington Redskins fan base wondered if the rumors of team Owner Dan Snyder making changes within his franchise were true.

After yesterday’s blowout loss to the Dallas Cowboys which ended another drama-filled and failed season, the shoe dropped.

Snyder did what his loyal and supportive fan base has clamored for well over two seasons. That was to fire team president Bruce Allen from all of his duties with the once storied franchise.

Snyder did not waste time in getting rid of the stench of another miserable home attendance campaign and an underachieving team to move in a positive direction.

The team issued a statement from Snyder early this morning that has Redskins fans in a frenzy on social media.

“As this season concludes, Bruce Allen has been relieved of his duties as president of the Washington Redskins and is no longer with the organization. Like our passionate fan base, I recognize we have not lived up to the high standards set by great Redskins teams, coaches and players who have come before us. As we reevaluate our team leadership, culture and process for winning football games, I am excited for the opportunities that lie ahead to renew our singular focus and purpose of bringing championship football back to Washington D.C.”

The move to relieve Allen should be seen as the right one with more to come.

Former Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera is the favorite to be named the Redskins new coach and that could happen as early as this afternoon. Rivera would bring a much needed defensive approach to a unit that played below their talent level all season.

The veteran coach and former NFL player himself seems enthralled to be able to work with a nucleus of young talent that could be ready to take off in 2020.
