After a wild 2020 for the country (COVID, Presidential Elections) and a rebranding for the Washington Football Team, the organization returns to Richmond, Virginia, for training camp.

The return will be different from previous years as the team will only be in town for a week of practice instead of nearly three weeks of the usual team activities.

Camp will also mark the first look for Richmond under the name Washington Football Team.

Intriguing battles await the Bon Secours Training Facility, where fans will witness yet another QB battle. This time the competition will be between veteran journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick and NFC Wildcard sensation Tyler Heinicke.

While both quarterbacks look to make a solid case to start, they will throw too many wideouts who also have an intriguing battle for the last three or four roster spots.

An offense that caused many ‘Monday Morning’ headaches among fans may have an embarrassment of riches as far as potential with the many returning and newly signed players.

Position battles also extend to the offensive line, secondary, and pretty much all over the field beside the defensive line, where it is pretty much cemented who will be taking the field.

As for practices, the morning sessions begin at 9:00 am with a significant change in evening walkthroughs that will now take place at 8:00 pm. All of this kicks off during the 3-practice days July
28-30. Saturday, July 31st is ‘Fan Appreciation Day’ with practice kicking off at 9:45 am. There will be no late session, and the camp will close at 3:00 pm.

As a Richmond native, there are several places that the great Washington fanbase should check out while visiting camp.

The following is a list of my favorite places in the city of Richmond:

Pig and Brew (Best Barbecue South of the James!)
1313 Hull Street, Richmond, Virginia

Poor Boys (Creole-inspired cuisine and New Orleans hospitality, NOLA meets RVA)
203 North Lombardy Street, Richmond, Virginia

Juice Life RVA (Cold-pressed Juice, Vegan + Organic)
117 N 20th St, Richmond, Virginia

Sunday Service Soul Food (Vibes and Great Soul Food)
4360 S. Laburnum Ave, Henrico, Virginia

Try some of these great spots in between morning practice and the evening walkthroughs.

On Instagram and Twitter, ask me about my favorite items from those locations @SurgeTheShooter.

Welcome to Richmond for the newcomers, and welcome back to the returning guests. Let’s get ready for football season the right way, the
Sports Journey way!
