Week 7 of the NFL schedule is on tap as the Washington Football Team travels to Green Bay, Wisconsin, and the sacred grounds of Lambeau Field, where they will face the red-hot Green Bay Packers. Washington has been a major disappointment this season and sport a below .500 record of 2-4.

The matchup will be the second consecutive contest where Washington will face a Super Bowl-winning quarterback and MVP in Aaron Rodgers. Last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington surrendered nearly 400 yards through the air to Patrick Mahomes to go along with three touchdown passes. Sunday’s game will also be the first of two straight games where Washington will be on the road.

Washington will need a total team effort to play with the Packers and ball security on offense is a must.

Quarterback Taylor Heinicke will look to bounce back against the team he cheered for growing up. The former Old Dominion standout has made his mistakes – throwing three interceptions to just one touchdown over the past two games.

Although he is from Atlanta, Georgia, Heinicke grew up a Packers fan because his father was originally from Wisconsin. While speaking to the media after a recent practice, Heinicke mentioned what he thinks of the Packers and playing against Rodgers.

“Yeah, I’m excited for it. It’s a dream come true,” Heinicke said. “I’ve been there before as a player, but I was in street clothes when I was with Minnesota. To actually be on the field, competing, it’s going to be a dream come true. So I’m excited for the opportunity.”

Heinicke went on to talk about Brett Favre and what the former Packers QB meant to the young signal-callers’ first impressions of football.

“Yeah, Brett Favre is the reason I started loving football,” Heinicke mentioned. “I had so many of his jerseys, and I remember watching the Packers game every Sunday with my dad, and during halftime, I would go out in the backyard and pretend like I was him and come back, and watch the second half. It’s a really cool deal.”

Green Bay (5-1) comes into the contest, having won five straight games since an opening day loss to the New Orleans Saints in Jacksonville, Florida.

In the team’s last contest in Week 14 of the 2019 season, in Green Bay, Washington was defeated by the Packers 20-15.

Sunday’s game marks the 39th time in franchise history the two teams will play each other. Green Bay leads the all-time series 21-16-1, including the postseason. The series dates back to the first meeting between the Packers and then-Boston Braves on November 13, 1932.

What would a win over the Packers do for the Washington Football Team from a statistical and historical standpoint?

  • A win would improve Washington’s all-time win total to 6 games over Green Bay at Lambeau Field (including the playoffs).
  • A victory improves Washington’s overall record against Green Bay to 17-21-1.
  • A win on Sunday would give Washington three victories in their last four meetings with the Packers dating back to 2016.
  • A ‘W’ would give Washington its first win against the Packers at Lambeau Field since a 20-17 victory on October 23, 1988.
  • A win would be Washington’s first over a team with a winning record this season.
  • Finally, a victory would improve Washington’s record to 3-4 on the season and move the team in the right direction to match high expectations for the 2021 campaign.
