Bills Trade for DJ Moore to Boost Josh Allen’s Offense

The Buffalo Bills made a significant move to improve their offense by trading for veteran wide receiver DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears. The deal signals Buffalo’s commitment to surrounding quarterback Josh Allen with more reliable playmakers as the team looks to remain among the NFL’s top contenders.

According to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Buffalo will receive Moore along with a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. In return, Chicago will receive a second-round selection in 2026.

The trade provides Buffalo with a proven wide receiver while also addressing one of the team’s biggest offensive needs after a season in which the passing game lacked consistent explosiveness.

A Reunion With Joe Brady Could Unlock Moore’s Strengths

One of the most important aspects of the trade is Moore’s previous experience working with Joe Brady. Before becoming the Bills’ head coach, Brady served as offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers, where Moore played during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

That period included one of the most productive campaigns of Moore’s career. In the 2020 season, he recorded 1,193 receiving yards while averaging 18.1 yards per catch across 15 games. Those numbers highlighted Moore’s ability to threaten defenses deep while also functioning as a dependable target in Brady’s offensive scheme.

Because Brady has already coached Moore and understands how he performs in his system, Buffalo may be able to integrate the veteran receiver into its offense quickly. Familiarity between a coach and player often speeds up the transition process and allows the offense to take advantage of a player’s strengths sooner.

Moore enters the upcoming season at age 29, bringing both experience and versatility to Buffalo’s receiving group. Known primarily as an outside receiver, he can stretch the field vertically while forcing defenses to account for his ability to create separation on intermediate routes.

A Much-Needed Boost for Buffalo’s Receiver Group

The addition of Moore comes after a challenging season for Buffalo’s wide receivers. The group combined for just 2,107 receiving yards in 2025, ranking among the lower totals for wide receiver units across the league.

Adding Moore gives the Bills a proven playmaker capable of improving their production. His presence should also help balance the receiving corps.

For example, Khalil Shakir has been particularly effective working from the slot position, where his quickness and agility allow him to exploit defensive matchups. Moore’s ability to line up on the outside helps open opportunities for Shakir to operate in space.

The move also reduces pressure on young receiver Keon Coleman. If Coleman develops into a major contributor during his third season, the Bills’ offense could become even more dangerous. If his growth takes longer, Moore ensures Buffalo still has a dependable veteran leading the receiver group.
