With Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel both cleared to return, Matthews says Washington’s offense could open up under Marcus Mariota, who replaces the injured Jayden Daniels. But the focus, he stresses, has to be on the other side of the ball: limit the big plays and make Mahomes earn every yard.
Matthews also emphasizes running the ball early and often — pounding away with Bill Croskey-Merritt, Chris Rodriguez Jr., and Jeremy McNichols to keep Kansas City’s offense off the field.
