It’s Week 13 on the NFL schedule and the Washington Redskins will be facing the Carolina Panthers and looking to win consecutive games for the first time this season. The Redskins will also be looking for their first road win over an NFC opponent this season.

Washington (2-9) enters the contest as 9-point underdogs which shows that the vegas oddsmakers don’t think much of the Redskins win last week over the Matthew Stafford-less Detroit Lions. That game had more media exposure surrounding rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins taking a selfie-and missing the final victory formation-kneel as opposed to the former Ohio State star winning his first game as a pro.

Last week in the 19-16 victory over the Jets which was the Redskins first home win since an October 21, 2018, 20-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys, Haskins threw for 156 yards with one interception.

This week the Redskins will be matching up with a struggling Panthers team who have lost three straight contests and four out of five overall. Carolina enters the game with a 5-6 record.

Interim coach Bill Callahan spoke about his message that challenged his players before the Lions game and if it can continue to carry through this week against the Panthers while speaking to the media from the INOVA Sports Performance Center at Redskins Park.

“I challenge our team every week,” Callahan said. “It’s just a matter of how you challenge your team. I think there’s a difference in how you challenge your team and talk to them and them to know how you truly feel about certain things ‒ fair, honest. I’m pretty open in terms of what I think, how we’re doing and where we’re at. Maybe a little different tone than normal, but it was heartfelt, it was passionate. I think the message was really clear. We needed to start fast, play harder, play better than what we have been doing.

“It’s not a game for the faint of heart,” Callahan continued. “It’s a pretty physical, mentally tough game that we play when you cross the white line. You got to be able to be tough-minded, take criticism, take hard coaching. Some take it well, a lot of players came up to me afterward and said they appreciated that. I just do my best. I know when you have a large group, in any large group dynamic, you’re going to have people that favor things that you do, you’re going to have your detractors, maybe some guys that it maybe doesn’t appeal to. The message was clear throughout the team, it wasn’t pointed at one person or one position, it was clearly a team message.”
