The NHRA’s west coast swing reaches a crucial checkpoint this weekend, as the 2025 Muckleshoot Casino Resort Northwest Nationals return to Pacific Raceways from July 18–20, bringing both history and high stakes to the ever-tightening charge to a regular season and Playoff season title races across all four pro classes.
Now past the halfway mark of the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, the championship picture is starting to come into focus—but nothing is locked in. Seattle isn’t just another stop on the calendar—it’s where momentum continues to build or becomes broken.
Top Fuel: Stewart Sets the Pace, but the Sharks Are Circling
In what’s been one of the season’s most compelling narratives, Tony Stewart has made the leap from NHRA newcomer to title frontrunner, entering Seattle with 848 points. But Shawn Langdon (796 pts) and Justin Ashley (771 pts) aren’t far behind, and both have tasted victory twice already this season.
Steve Torrence, last year’s winner at Pacific Raceways, will not be in attendance this weekend. If Stewart wants to leave Seattle still on top, he’ll have to hold off a duo of veterans with championship pedigree.
Funny Car: Prock’s Playground?
Austin Prock is in a groove, carrying four wins and 838 points into the Northwest. After beating Paul Lee in last year’s Seattle final, he returns with both confidence and a clear target on his back.
Jack Beckman (711 pts) and Paul Lee will look to try to keep things tight in the standings. Beckman, in particular, has been rock-solid, already racking up two Wallys this year.
Pro Stock: Anderson Eyes the Crown
Greg Anderson is operating in legacy mode, winning two out of the last three races and holding a 50-point lead (878) over Dallas Glenn (828). This is a two-horse race for the regular season championship.
Add in a rising Cory Reed, who stunned the field at Norwalk, and a lurking Matt Harford to the overall quest for the championship, and the Pro Stock war could turn volatile in Seattle, as gaining momentum heading into the playoffs is crucial.
Pro Stock Motorcycle: Wide Open in the Wild West
2024 Seattle winner Chase Van Sant returns to familiar territory, but he’ll have to fend off Gaige Herrera and Richard Gadson, both of whom have found the winner’s circle this year. Meanwhile, Matt Smith, a six-time champ, lurks just behind Herrera, waiting to pounce.
Beyond the Track
The weekend kicks off Thursday with a $15,000 Mission Foods Machine Tournament and fan-friendly Nitro Alley Fest at the Auburn Outlets. Friday night brings “nitro under the lights”, setting the stage for high drama under the cover of a Pacific Northwest night sky. Saturday qualifying is followed by live music at the Muckleshoot Resort, and Sunday eliminations air on FOX at 4:30 p.m. ET.
Bottom line? Seattle isn’t just about points—it’s about pressure. With the Countdown to the Championship looming, the Northwest Nationals could tilt the entire 2025 title race. Buck
