Washington Redskins punter Tress Way fresh off of an outstanding outing against the Carolina Panthers was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week by the National Football League.
Way’s performance in a 29-21 Week 13 win consisted of five punts for 290 yards with an average of 58.0 yards per punt. The former Oklahoma product produced a net average of 47.0 yards per punt. His best punt of the day was for a whopping 79-yards which is the longest in the NFL this season by 13 yards and tied for the 16th longest in NFL history. Two of Way’s punts were downed inside the 20-yard line.
The honor is the second of Way’s career. He becomes the first Redskins punter to be selected twice since Matt Turk achieved the honor in Week 7 of the 1997 season and Week 9 of the 1998 season.

On the season, Way has punted the ball 60 times for 2,996 yards with an average of 49.9 yards per punt and a net average of 44.4 yards with both categories leading the NFL.
Last week rookie wideout and kickoff returner Steven Sims Jr. was given the special teams honor. Way and Sims Jr. are the first Redskins to ever achieve the honor in consecutive weeks.
